You wouldn't recognize her now but I photographed Reese when she was 6 days old! Click here to see that newborn shoot we did last year.

Now little Reese has turned 1! Wow the year has flown by!!

We've all done it, we've all dove into a cake on our first Birthday! Now that's a tradition that I think we should still do...even as adults we should get to eat cake with our hands:)

Well, if there was attention to detail at any of my wedding this year, this wedding sure takes the cake! Jen and Scott's purple colour theme they chose was stunning. From the shoes to the cake to the reception decor, Kim and Robin from 'The Creative Bride' sure didn't miss a beat!! And the sweet table with purple candy and an awesomely tasty cake from Cakes by Christie was just adorable!

Ashley and Ian-Brantford Golf and Country Club

They met on a blind date, set up by her mom. It had disaster written all over it...or so you'd think! Ashley and I an actually hit if off! When Ian found out that she loves football and that her family actually watches the 'the game' at Thanksgiving, he knew she was 'the one'.

The wedding was cute at a church in the Brides hometown of Simcoe. We all had a good laugh when the officiant called the bride 'Rachel' when her name is Ashley...kinda reminds me of that episode of Friends... but we all had a good laugh!

After the ceremony we went to Ian's family's property for the group photos and it was a spectacular location! Better than any local 'park' we could have picked out!

Then we headed to the Brantford Golf and County Club for the reception and a few more photos. What a view from the course!!

Then and Now- A personal Project

I'm photographing the first images of this project on Thursday! I am so very excited!!

The story behind this image is what got me...

This is the 'Then". You'll have to wait to see what I've come up with for the "Now"

The picture I have attached is of my mom and I. It was taken at Christmas time about 1975. My mom passed away not long after this photograph was taken and I have looked at this photo probably hundreds of times since then. For the longest time every time I looked at it, it lost a little bit of something for me. After a while it was like looking at a photo of a long lost aunt that you may see once every few years.

One day I was organizing old photo albums with my daughter. Going through all the memories of my childhood one page at a time we eventually came upon this photo. Kiera asked me who they were and I explained to her that it was me and my Mommy when I wasn't much older then she is now. She looked at the photograph for a bit and then said, "She is looking at you, they way you look at me. She must love you a lot."

At that moment I saw the picture in a way I had never really looked at it before. That of a love between mother and daughter. That one little statement out of a 6-yr gave me back something that I thought was gone forever. The power of a mother's love. Needless to say the picture did not go back into the album, but in a frame to remind me of how precious the bond is between a mother and her children. Of course I would love to have the opportunity to have this photo re-done with my daughter, but mainly would like thank you for letting me share my story with you. It means so much to be able to do that with someone who understands the meaning behind a dusty old photograph.

Then and Now- A personal Project

It's important as a photographer to shoot for personal growth and art, not just for the cha-ching!

At WPPI many speakers talked about the importance of shooting for fun, for practice and for art on top of the work we are paid for. Since my return I have been brainstorming for weeks about what I would like to do for a personal project...

This is when it hit me...

I was having dinner with some fellow photographers the other night and I was listening to New York's Jason Groupp talk about his favourite photograph of his dad-read his blog post here and see the image, it's a great story!

Listening to him describe the image it reminded me so much of my favourite photograph of my dad. This is where I came up with the idea to launch my Personal Photography Project called...

Sweet Baby Ronan!

Man this little guy was an angel!! He slept so well for our shoot!

The key to newborn photographs is to get them within the first 6 days. The younger the better!

After about 6-10 days old the baby is a bit more reluctant to sleeping as sound for all the cutes poses we like to do.

I love getting mail...real mail. When I see a hand written envelope with my name on it I am instantly excited! I immediately look for the return address label to see who it's from and my interest is especially peeked if there isn't one! lol

Melissa and Matt love to play HOCKEY!! They play together on a co-ed team in Waterloo! I think it's great when couples can find something they love to do together. I bet Mel can kick Matt's but, she's a tough cookie!

I love it when we can get 2 sides to a couple on an engagement shoot, their playful and fun side goofing off together and their sweet romantic side snuggling close and kissing! To me this is the perfect mix for an engagement session.

It was cold out but we stayed warm running and playing in the snow!

During this part if the shoot I had to keep asking Mel and Matt to stop breathing for a second while I clicked the shutter because their breath was fogging up around them, it was funny.

" Ok hold it, don't breath, just one more frame...click click, ok you can breath now" lol

Melissa and Matt are getting married this summer in Muskoka! I am stoked to shoot their wedding in a region that means so much to me. BALA HERE WE COME!! My family has a cottage up there and this area holds many special memories for me!

Vegas...wow! Love Vegas...

This was our view on a rainy first morning in Sin City..

The street @ night!The street in the day!...DerA shot from the air...Starbucks, oh how I needed you for 8 am seminars...

I’ve been thinking for days about how I would blog about WPPI. Let me start with: Oh em gee, WPPI AMAZING and even better than I anticipated!

I am so inspired by all the wonderful people I met and the amazing talented photographers that are willing to share their ideas and strengths to better us all in the industry. We are so lucky as photographers to have such wonderful mentors to help us out along the way.

WPPI is definitely more than just seminars and classes. Above all, WPPI is about the people and the relationships! I met some incredible people from all over the world and made some connections that will be forever cherished.

The best part of WPPI...HANDS DOWN -the fun times with my roommates! I can not say enough good things about these girls! The way Darlene, Nova and I got along you’d think that we’d known each other for years right? Yeah no. We’d actually only met a handful of times before Vegas. I seriously can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. Best roomies of life! Yup, we’ve already decided that we’re bunking together again in 2012!

Here's a shot that Taylor Jackson captured of us girls. Talk about a moment that sums up the week perfectly! Thanks so much Taylor for catching this perfect moment!! xo

Ok I am going to try to keep this short because I could ramble forever about everything that went on..so here's the Coles Notes highlights reel...

If you are considering WPPI, be like Nike! Just do it! It will change the way you think, it will inspire you to do better, you will learn lots and laugh hard all week long!

Favourite Funny Moment: When my roommate Darlene saw what she thought was a very expensive camera lens rolling off the bed to the floor and dove to save it! Upon catching it she realized that it was only a cheap plastic mock coffee mug made too look like a replica of a Canon lens. Oh my gawd we laughed till we cried!

Favourite Presenter: Jerry Ghionis! Being an adoring fan of his work and hearing endless good things about his presentations, I was totally excited to hear him speak. I had no idea the rollercoaster ride he would take us on in the 2 hours ahead. We laughed, we cried… I dozed.off….ok just for a split second tho! I’m not gonna to lie I did doze off for a second or two, but I was dang tired! After all it was an 8am seminar and its Vegas. How much sleep can you expect I got!? But seriously, Jerry wears his heart and his emotions on his sleeve and it shows in the incredible images he creates! Oh and yes, he actually cried too! Heart him! Next year a JG plus class is in order!

Favourite Sponsor Party: Go-Bee Bags @ Mandalay Bay. This party was in a super sweet penthouse with a rocking DJ, an open bar and a super fun photo booth. We had a great time dancing and got a few really funny photo booth pics! And that view from the PH- Helloooo! The great thing about WPPI is there is no sho

rtage of sponsor parties to attend where you can party with other photographers and usually get some free drinks and food! ;)

Favorite Rock-Star Moment: Meeting Jasmine Star! This woman is my idol! I actually have like a bit of a girl crush on her and was afraid I might act all wired if I met her! But I kept it totally cool and collected! We went to see her speak on Monday and it was fab! She talked about a variety of business and personal stuff in her 2 hr gig in the MGM Grand Theatre…um, P.s, Bon Jovi is playing in the MGM Grand Theatre this week! That’s how big a room she needed, ok well they didn’t use the whole auditorium for her but they needed lots of seats because she sold out last year and people waited for 3 hours in line to get a spot. Thanks WPPI for making it better this year! An

yhoo,. Jasmine kept it funny and real! I was touched and inspired by her words. Ok so on to the part where I actually met her…So later that evening my roomies and I were walking through the hotel and I saw her standing waiting for a table outside a restaurant. I saw her from behind and it was her gorgeous black stilettos I recognized first. While she was on stage I thought, geeze that is a big pair of sexy shoes! So we saw her standing there, walked by, giggled a little and whispered ‘omg, that’s Jasmine Star!’ See in our world she is a bit of a RockStar! She has quite the following of adoring fans. Not wanting to interrupt her we kept walking, then I stopped short, turned to my roomies and said ‘wait a second, are we really going to keep walking and not go and say hi?!’ Of course not!! So we about face turned and went to say a quick hello, told her how amazing her talk was, took a quick photo and let her get on with her evening. For the rest of the night we were totally ‘Star-struck!’ We celebrated with some champagne and toasted the occasion. Not because we met a RockStar Photographer but because we didn’t let the opportunity to meet her pass us by. We would have totally regretted it if we had!

Another part of WPPI that I just loved was Photographer's Ignite! This was also another one of my favourite presentations at WPPI. Each photographer has 5 minuets to say something inspiring with 20 slides that move ahead in 15 second intervals. It's fast and furious! Some were touching, some were hilarious but each person inspired me! I didn't get a shot of each presenter because sometimes I was just so engrossed in what they were saying that I forgot. But here's a few shots I grabbed of some of the speakers...and btw, snagging shots of people talking is really hard! Inevitably they are usually making a stupid face!

...p.s someday I'll be up there!

Setting Goals: Now that I am back, I have some goals that I have set for myself relating to my business. Before WPPI 2012 I want to accomplish these goals so that I have room to set new and fresh ones next year!!

So here they are:

Create a more personal and visible online presence about who I am as a photographer and as a person. My goal is for people to be able to come to a ‘meet and greet’ and say, ‘wow, I feel like I already know you!’ In the spring, I’ll be creating a video of some behind the scenes footage and interviews with me and a few clients. People will be able to get to know me and decide if they like me right from my website! The good news is- I am not camera shy!

Cut the corporate mantra! For so long I thought that I had to keep everything about my business so ‘corporate’. My emails were worded ever so carefully. ‘Hello, thank you for your e-mail inquiry about our services…’ – Blah Blah, Boooring! That’s just not me. The emails should be like! ‘Hey There! So you’re engaged!? That’s awesome!, When’s the big day? Do you have a dress yet!?’ This is they way I talk so what is stopping me from writing like that too?

Build Better Relation Ships with my favorite people in the industry. Pay it forward. If I spread the love about the vendors I love, they will spread the love in return. If I give them great images to use they will appreciate it and hopefully send some fabulous people my way!

I have a few more goals in my brain but I don’t want to reveal too much yet. Gotta leave some surprises!

So that about sums it up. Thanks for reading!

I heart the light here...

Jessica and Brad and Chloe came out for their engagement session a few weeks ago. Poor Chloe was a wee bit cold even tho she had her super cute sweater on!!

We stayed warm in the shelter of this broken down old barn. The way the light filters in just makes me smile...

You'll likely see Brad and Jess again on the blog when they get Hitched later this year.

When we first we showed up and there was about 6 guys dressed in army gear and black masks...for a second my heart stopped until I realized there were just here to play some paint ball! Phew! So they let us take some shots before they started theirs...ha ha!

Joh and Malcolm- Fall Colours

A beautiful fall day is probably the perfect weather in Canada for a wedding! A bride (and her photographer) dreams and prays that the weather will be just perfect for their special day...

Johanna and Malcolm married On October 2, 2010 in Guelph

... but the forecast isn't always just as we order it.

Once again this wet Canadian weather was a challenge but when we put our heads together an experienced photographer can pull off gorgeous photos in any circumstance, even in the middle of the mall!

The Quebec Street Mall in Guelph was suggested by Joh and Malcolm in case of bad weather and it worked out great. With a creative eye we managed to take some great photos indoors.

Later, the rain cleared and we got some great shots at the venue grounds. The reception was at the Cutten Club (Golf Club). Their grounds are just spectacular. What a view!!

Random Act of Kindness Day 2010- Part 2

R.A.O.K.D.2010 was a success! We have not yet drawn a winner but will do that later today. I just wanted to come online and post some of the emails I got. It's great to see the ideas that people had and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside! Random acts of kindness can be small and can really make a difference in someone's day.

Here is some of the emails I got:

Today [my fiance] helped an apprentice at work, he knows [the apprentice] is not making a lot of money and is having a hard time buying tools to proceed in his career (autobody repair). So [my fiance] went to the Mac Tools truck and purchased a [tool] valued at $40 and left it anonymously on his tool box. The whole day he kept asking people in the shop who bought him the tools because he wanted to thank them. I'm very proud of my fiance's random act of kindness!

I went to get a breakfast sandwich at Burger King and the elderly lady [behind the counter] really looked like life hasn't been too good for her so I just kept saying "please" & "thank you" and "have a great day" all with a smile ..... by the end of it all her eyes softened and she smiled so I guess I helped a bit.

At Timmy's this morning I bought the order for the car behind me. It turned out to be more than I expected, but went with it anyway...

All around, it felt good. The man in the vehicle behind me looked crabby so maybe this improved his morning for him.

[My Daughter and I] took the afternoon to sort through her toys. Whatever she doesn't play with, we'll donate to a charity so a family that might be less fortunate at Christmas time have toys to give... I'm extra proud of Keira for donating 20 of her beloved Barbies.

Thank you to everyone who emailed me. It is so great to see all the things people did.

You are probably asking yourself, what I did for RAOKD?? Well here it is:

A dear friend of mine is going through some rough times. I invited her out for a lunch date and we ate spicy Thai food together and talked a bit about what she is going through. It was a beautiful sunny day so it was nice to get out for a bit. I also tried to just do a few little things like hold the door for people, smile: Oh...and I did this contest!

A Long Hot Summer!-Staring Megan and Christian!-The Capitol Event Theatre, Toronto

Summer is coming to a close and so is wedding season! Fall is always our busiest time of year so my apologies for not blogging more often.

Megan and Christian tied the knot this summer in Toronto! This fun couple loves vintage, green shoes and fun colours!

We headed to The Artscape Wychwood Barns for the group photos. This location was perfect for the feel we were after for this wedding. Urban meets vintage!

The Reception was held at the Capitol Event Theatre. This venue is so unique and funky! Megan and Chris had a really cool movie poster made from one of their engagement photos!

Today Shauna and I went to the Humane Society to officially donate the funds we raised for Q-Tip:) I also donated some wall art to them to hang in Q's memory.

Here is a super high quality cell phone picture to commemorate the occasion ;)

After, we stayed for a bit and played with the kittens and dogs. My favourite furry friend is this little buddy named Cooper.

He is a 1.5 yr old Lab Husky cross full of energy! Oh my he was a cutie and a handful! I wish I could have taken a bunch of them home with me!! There are sooo many furry friends that need a good home.

Matt and Mary- Segram's Lofts+ Versus Wedding!

Matt and Mary were up for suggestions for their pics. Me...being the kind of photographer that I am, suggested a nice balance of ruggedness with chipping paint and funky doors and a few blooming trees for some romance. The perfect mix in my opinion.

We started at Waterloo Park and the walked down to the Segram's Lofts in uptown Waterloo!

Laura and Dan's wedding was a wet one...wow, I say that a lot this summer! We drove to Baden for the reception held at a family friends's gorgeous property with a super cute barn that was used for the reception. The barn was decorated beautifully complete with white mini lights!

I just knew were were in for some awesome photos when the groom Kevin suggested the Skate Park (Gage Park) in Hamilton for the photos! I heard the words 'graffiti, industrial and rugged' and I instantly got excited! This wedding rocked! The even did the Thriller dance for their entrance! WOW! After dinner we started up the photobooth! Man I have never seen so many people try and squeeze into one photo! It was hilarious and a hit! I think it really set the tone for the rest of the evening!

Ok, I think this wedding can officially be called the HOTTEST wedding day ever! Oh my it was like 40 degrees out! But that didn't stop us! The weather man called for T-storms so I'll take stinkin' hot over rain any day of the year! Gotta love southern Ontario for our humidity!

Anyways, the moral of the story is Jacqueline and Andrew had a beautiful, hot, sticky wedding day and so they didn't hesitate getting into the beers at the Golf Club!

I was honoured and delighted to be invited, by my former Conestoga College photography program teacher Cam McGill, to come and speak to the class about...well about being a working photographer!

I racked my brain on what to talk about with the students...I came up with a list of 'The Top 10 Things I Learned Outside the Conestoga Class Room". The students responded really well and gave some great feedback on what they thought of my schpeel (is that how you spell it?)

Tonight we also chatted about (and here's another shout out) some of my favourite resources:

enlightenme For online tips, vids and the occasional workshop. Although the blog seems a bit outdated for 2010- hint hint boys, post more, post more, I love it!

No BS Photo Success a great tool on marketing and business stuff. Great pair of guys!

In the above pic, I am talking a bit about blogging, something I strive to do more of and have made a personal and professional goal to do more this season. I made mention to the amazingly talented Jasmine Star's blog. Her blog is inspiring and a really fun read. I think her blog really demonstrates a great balance between showing recent work, a bit of pop culture fun and her personality really shines through each post. A blog is a great way for your clients and friends to see a bit more of who you are as a photographer and her's shows a model example of what I think is a GREAT blog! Gold Star for Jasmine Star! Whoot Whoot!

Meet Q-Tip.

Q-Tip's mom Shauna has a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats. Q-Tip was adopted by her foster mama Shauna last year and sadly Q-Tip is ill. She wanted some special photos of her special friend which I was delighted to do. Q-Tip is a real cutie!

I was touched by Shauna's compassion for animals. She has helped and rescued so many kittens over the years and that is something special!

So, I am proposing the following:

About 2 weeks ago I went to the No BS photo Success Road Show and it was great! I learned a lot of great marketing tips and had a few laughs too. If any other photographers read my blog, here's a tip. Start following this blog: http://www.nobsphotosuccess.com/blog/

Then, if you have a chance to attend one of their workshops, I'd highly recommend it! It was very helpful and very good value. I don't know about you, but workshops can be expensive! I find it hard sometimes to afford all the wonderful workshops I'd like to attend but this one was ridiculously affordable!

Well 2009 is ready to come to a close! Wow time flies when you are having fun!

Our office is closed until January 4, 2010! I am heading out bright and early tomorrow morning for a destination wedding at The Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana!
, . I'll be home just in time to have a few days left to get my shopping done (I mean started) and then it's Christmas!

In the new year I will be busy finishing the last of the renovations on the studio! We're opening a cool little loft in the small town of Elmira! I'll post more details in January.

I met up with the Canadian band Rosedale Saturday for a promo shoot. The guys were in town for a gig at The Cutting Edge Music Festival. Our location was limited to the festival grounds and we shot between sound checks but we got some great new promo shots for some upcoming gigs.

Ester and Alex Domincan Wedding

I was forturnate to travel last week to Punta Cana to photograph Alex and Esther's wedding at the Majestic Colonial Resort and Spa.

Esther contacted me online and we discussed the wedding over the phone and via email becauase she lives in New York City! We met for the first time at the resort on the Thursday for drinks in the lobby at the hotel. As you can see we hit it off right away!

This is a few snap shots my hubby took of Esther and Alex browsing a sample coffee table book of another wedding I shot there last year and I am drinking my favorite- Margaritas!

We spent the next few hours with them laughing and chatting details about the big day!

The wedding was on Saturday. The weather was beautiful and the bride looked stunning! My hubby and photographer in training Mike worked with me that day second shooting and beign the gentleman that he is he carried most of my bags too:) But he also got some great shots that I will also post later.

I have just started the long process of post processing but I found a few great images that I wanted to share...

It has been a busy winter for me and I apologize with the lack of blogging lately...what's a girl to do! I have been impatiently dreaming of warmer weather and ramping up for the 09 wedding season!

The official 2009 wedding season launches (for me) in March in sunny Punta Cana where I will be shooting a wedding at the Fabulous Majestic Colonial Resort! I can't wait to return to this place! It is such a wonderful place! In the meantime, I felt like posting something just for fun!

7. Bad movies, it's 2 hrs of my life I can never get back! Urgh!

Wedding show was a success!

I just got back from the Hamilton-Halton Spring wedding show and it was a blast! This was a first for C'est Chic! Photography and it was a wonderful experience. I had a chance to meet some great brides and some other really nice local professionals.

Here is a photo of our booth at the show! Everyone loved the 'living room' feel and welcomed the chance to sit down and rest their feet while browsing the coffee table books.

I have had lots of emails come through since the show so I must back to work!

Also, soon I will be announcing a Femme Fatale Boudoir Marathon date for late February or early March so watch for more info soon!

I had such an amazing experience with the photographer who did my wedding I really wanted to share it with you.

My husband and I were married on September, 20, 2008, at Langdon Hall in Cambridge. Our photographer, Denise Bélanger of C'est Chic Photography was referred to us by a number of people we knew personally and professionally. Within minutes of our first meeting with Denise, we felt an instant connection. She had such a passion and excitement for photography we didn't see in many of the other photographers we met with. Once she displayed her portfolio to us, we knew she was the right photographer for us. She shared with us photos of so many beautiful weddings we could hardly believe how much talent was in front of us.

Denise and her assistant met us at Landgon Hall early in the morning to start photos as we got ready for the day. As usual on the wedding day, there was a lot of commotion and running around. Denise and her assistant kept us all on track. Without them, I very well would have been late for my own wedding! As Denise moved around the room taking photos, she knew exactly what was the perfect shot. She was taking photos of things I would have never thought of...and I did spent a lot of pre-wedding time thinking about what would be the best shots (as I am sure all brides do).

Next followed an outdoor ceremony, cocktails and lunch. Denise and her assistant used every opportunity to take photos, even when we didn't know it. It wasn't until after I saw the pictures I realized how many beautiful candid shots they got of me, my wedding party, family and friends. Denise was never obvious to the guests, but always there for the best shot. I knew Langdon Hall was a great location, but the way Denise captured it, it was stunning. Denise made me and my wedding party feel so at ease during what is traditionally one of the most nerve-racking days of our lives. My guests were so impressed with the way she worked the wedding, I had a number of them asking me for her contact information.

I will continue to use Denise and her team for all of my future photography needs. Here is what I wrote to her after receiving my album:

Ceara and Lucas-Langdon Hall Wedding!

On September 20th I photographed Ceara and Luca's Langdon Hall wedding. It was a morning wedding with a lovely lunch served in the afternoon. The grounds are spectacular! I know some of you will ask... "Where is a photo of the couple in front of the Famous Langdon Hall building?" Well strict rules were enforced that we were not allowed any photos of the front of the famous building :( Oh well!

Ceara received her album last week and wrote me an email:

Terri and Mitch ~ Wedding!`

I shot Terri and Mitch's wedding ON August 9th. The weather did not want to cooperate at first but we managed to get some great shots when the rain cleared up!

Terri and Mitch received their album last week via courier. Because they live 2 hours away I shipped it to them. Here the email I received:

Hi Denise,

The pictures came on Tuesday!! I was out of town so I made Mitch wait to look at them with me :) They are absolutely perfect!! I knew they would be great but they still exceeded my expectations!!! You are a very talented woman! We are so glad that you were able to capture our day the way you did!

Sarah and Alec~Beach Wedding!

Alec and Sarah were also married at the Majestic Colonial that same week.

Sarah and Alec were reunited for their romantic beach wedding. Alec has been overseas in Afghanistan with the Canadian Forces for nearly a year and was able to come home for their wedding and honeymoon and then had to head back. It has been tough for them to be apart but Alec will be home in only a few more days!!!! Sarah is patiently waiting for him to return before peeking at the photos so they can share the fun together!

Punta Cana Weddings!

I know many of you have been patiently waiting to see some Dominican Photos! Well wait no more!!!

I was at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana DR for a glorious week in the sun! For me there was lots of work between Margaritas but it was well worth it!

Blair and Ben's wedding was just beautiful! I have never met a more calm and cool bride!

Here are some of my favorite shots from Blair and Ben's day! So hard to chose just a few! What a sweet groom. He was so emotional when Blair walked down the isle that he could barely look at her because she was so stunningly beautiful!

After the weekend I will post more from the week including Sarah and Alec's wedding!

I recently spent a week in Punta Cana photographing 2 weddings plus a few other shoots (trash the dress, modeling ) and I am so eager to show you all some photos from my trip!
